Trichoscopy Report
The TrichoLAB Trichoscopy Report consists of four parts:
Patient's data | 50x magnified images taken with hair units marked | Hair statistics | Conclusions
The Trichoscopy Report is based on the evaluation of a set of videodermoscopic images of the scalp. These images are subject to an automated computerized image analysis. Advanced pattern recognition algorithms allow to automatically detect and precisely measure hair, hair follicles and other important objects visible in the images. Detailed data on hair and hair follicles are then used to calculate key statistical factors of the trichoscopic method. The procedure is quality assured by manual inspection of each image for maximum accuracy. Algorithms and computation methods used by TrichoLAB are continuously improved and the experience gained with each performed test allow to enhance the testing precision.
The statistical evaluation is supplemented by a conclusion and second opinion written by our TrichoLAB hair specialists.
Trichoscopy allows to objectively assess the examined structures. Thanks to this, treatment results may be assessed by comparing significant hair parameters obtained during subsequent tests. This will considerably enhance patient's compliance!
STATISTICS
Average number of hairs
Derived from 50x magnified images the best estimate of hair density normalized to 1 square centimeter. The ratio of values in different areas has also a diagnostic meaning.
Hair shaft thickness
Hair shafts identified on 50x magnified images are subject to a diameter measurement using proprietary TrichoLAB algorithms with the unprecedented precision of one micron. Hair dyeing does not influence the result. The statistical distribution of the hair diameter indicates the size of anisotrichosis.
Hair distribution
Hair aggregated into hair units enables to find the ratio of single versus multihair units. It also indicates the condition of arrector pili muscle (APM).
Empty follicles
The number of empty follicles in various areas and different size of its 'yellow dots' manifestation are very good indicators to distinguish discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE), alopecia areata (AA) or androgenetic alopecia (AGA).
Cumulative Hair Thickness
The cumulative hair thickness is the sum of all hair diameters growing within 1 square centimeter. It indicates how well the hair covers the scalp, taking both density and diameter into consideration.
Number of follicular units
Hairs are aggregated into follicular units. The density of follicular units (grafts) is an important parameter in planning a possible hair surgery.
CONCLUSIONS
The Trichoscopy Report contains a second opinion from doctors specialized in hair and scalp disorders. It is based both on statistics and qualitative assessment.
You have the possibility to use the "Choose your expert" option if you want to get a conlusion from a special member of our international expert team.
With the CHOOSE YOUR EXPERT function you can ask a particular expert for the second opinion for your examination.
